The History

Where the Myers Cocktail came from.

Dr. John Myers was a physician at Johns Hopkins in the 1960s and 1970s who began experimenting with an IV vitamin and mineral blend for patients with fatigue, fibromyalgia, asthma, migraine, and acute infections. He never formally published his protocol, but his patients reported significant improvement and the practice spread informally through colleagues.

After Dr. Myers' death in 1984, Dr. Alan Gaby, a physician who had worked with him, refined the protocol and published the modern Myers Cocktail formulation. Gaby's version is what most IV clinics still use today. He estimates he personally administered the cocktail more than 15,000 times over his career.

A 2009 placebo-controlled pilot trial published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine studied the Myers Cocktail in patients with fibromyalgia; those who received it reported improvement, though the difference from placebo did not reach statistical significance. It remains one of the few published clinical trials on the protocol, and research is limited.

What is in It

The Whole Health Myers formula.

Our Myers Cocktail follows the modern Gaby protocol with adjustments for tolerance and comfort. Every additive is pharmacy-sourced.

Magnesium

Magnesium Chloride · 2-4 mL

The most important component. Magnesium relaxes vascular and bronchial smooth muscle, supports over 300 enzymatic reactions, and is depleted by stress, exercise, caffeine, and alcohol. Most adults are mildly deficient.

Calcium

Calcium Gluconate · 1-3 mL

Works alongside magnesium for muscle and nerve function. Helps prevent the warmth or flushing sensation that high-dose magnesium can cause.

B-Complex

Multi-B Vitamin Blend · 1 mL

B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacinamide), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine). Critical for energy metabolism, neurological function, and red blood cell production.

Vitamin B12

Hydroxocobalamin · 1 mL

Essential for nervous system function, DNA synthesis, and red blood cell formation. We use hydroxocobalamin (the form your body retains longest) rather than cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin B6

Pyridoxine · 1 mL

Supports neurotransmitter synthesis (serotonin, dopamine, GABA), immune function, and hemoglobin production. Often deficient in people on hormonal birth control.

Vitamin C

Ascorbic Acid · 4-20 mL

Antioxidant, immune support, collagen synthesis. Higher IV doses bypass the absorption ceiling of oral vitamin C and reach plasma concentrations not achievable by mouth.

Carrier fluid. Everything above is mixed into either sterile water or normal saline, depending on what your body needs that day. Total bag volume is typically 250-500 mL.

What to Expect

Your first Myers Cocktail visit.

Step 1

Quick intake

Your nurse reviews your health history, current medications, and any concerns. This is a five-minute conversation, not paperwork.

Step 2

The IV start

A small IV catheter goes in, typically in the back of the hand or forearm. Most clients describe it as a brief pinch.

Step 3

The drip

The bag runs over 30-45 minutes. You can read, work, or rest. Some clients feel warmth or a vitamin taste briefly, both normal.

Step 4

The finish

IV out, small pressure dressing on, and you are back to your day. Most clients feel an energy lift within 2-12 hours.
