IV Drips Across a Multi-Day Indian Wedding in Chino Hills, Diamond Bar and Pomona

A three-day Indian wedding here usually runs across three different buildings, and the people who need hydration most are rarely the couple. It is the parents, aunts and uncles hosting since Thursday, the cousins running logistics, and the grandparents on their feet through all of it.

WholeHealth Hydration is based in Chino Hills, in the middle of the venue circuit most families here use. Below is how a mobile IV visit fits that schedule, where it does not fit, and who should not have one at all.

Why do families book IV drips during a multi-day Indian wedding?

Because the format stacks three long days on very little sleep, and fluid loss builds quietly across all of them. A sangeet or garba that runs past midnight, an early ceremony the next morning, a full reception the day after, plus inland summer heat and a lot of time on your feet — most people are meaningfully behind on fluids by day two without ever noticing they were thirsty.

Here is the honest version. IV fluids are good at correcting dehydration, and that is the real, well-established benefit. They do not treat exhaustion, they do not replace sleep, and they do not cure or prevent anything. If someone is expecting a drip to erase two nights of four hours' sleep, it will not, and we would rather say so before you book than after.

Which local venues does this usually involve?

Most of the multi-day weddings we get called for move between three places, all a short drive from our Chino Hills base.

• Diamond Bar Center, 1600 Grand Avenue, Diamond Bar — the city-owned facility whose Grand View Ballroom seats 438 for dining, holds 822 theatre-style and has a raised platform stage — hence its use for sangeet, garba and reception nights.
• BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, 15100 Fairfield Ranch Road, Chino Hills — the hand-carved marble and sandstone mandir on a 20-acre site, completed in 2012, where many local ceremonies are held.
• The Sheraton Fairplex in Pomona — a hotel and conference property with 16 rentable meeting rooms and capacity for more than 10,000 people at one event, which is why it comes up as a reception and room-block option.

Getting-ready locations are usually houses: Vellano and Los Serranos in Chino Hills, or family homes in Walnut, Rowland Heights, Chino and Eastvale. We will not quote you a drive time. Diamond Bar is about five miles from our base and Pomona is a similar hop, but Grand Avenue, the 57 and the 60 on a Saturday make any minute figure a guess. What matters is that this circuit sits well inside our local radius. A mileage-based travel fee may apply beyond about 30 miles of Chino Hills; cities inside roughly 15 miles typically have none, and whatever applies to your address is quoted before you book rather than added afterwards. Where in a three-day schedule does a drip actually fit?

Three slots reliably work, and the one families always ask about does not.

1. Afternoon or early evening before the sangeet or garba. The calmest window of the weekend. Nobody is in outfit yet and the house is not full.
2. Mid-morning the day after the garba — but only if the ceremony is not that same morning.
3. Late morning or early afternoon between the ceremony and the reception, back at the house or hotel room, while people change.

The slot that does not work is the one everyone wants: between a garba that ends after midnight and a ceremony early the next morning. Screening, setup, the infusion and cleanup run roughly 45 to 75 minutes per person for a standard hydration or recovery drip, and specialty infusions take longer — NAD+ is 90 to 120 minutes for the infusion alone. That time comes out of the little sleep anyone will get, and sleep is what actually helps. We will tell you no on that one.

We do not run drips during the ceremony itself. And no IV is ever placed in a moving vehicle, because a nurse cannot safely place or monitor a line in motion, so party bus and in-transit requests are declined.

Can a nurse set up at the venue, or does it have to be a hotel room or a house?

It has to be a private, seated space — never the event floor — and whether the venue can offer one varies. A hotel room or a family home is the easiest answer.

The mandir is a place of worship, and we do not set up inside it. At the Diamond Bar Center a private room depends on which portion of the ballroom your family rented and what staff approve; the ballroom divides into smaller spaces, so ask your coordinator well before the day. At a hotel, a guest room solves it cleanly.

What a nurse needs is modest: a chair someone can lean back in, a surface for supplies, good light, hand-washing access, a trash receptacle and a door. Not a bathroom, not a parking lot.

How does it work when several family members want one at the same time?

One Registered Nurse comfortably handles two to four people; for five to ten we send one or two nurses, and for more than ten, two to four, so people are seen alongside each other rather than queuing in a hallway. Plan on about two hours for two to four guests, three for five to ten, four for a larger group.

Each person is still screened individually before anything starts. That screening covers health history, current medications, allergies and how they are feeling that day, and it is the reason a nurse may decline one guest while proceeding with the rest. Give us a realistic headcount rather than the optimistic one — it is easier to staff for eight and have six show up than the reverse. Should older relatives get a drip?

Often the answer is no, and that is the part of this article we would most like people to read. Kidney function declines with age even in healthy people — glomerular filtration rate falls by roughly 8 mL/min/1.73 m² per decade after the fourth decade, and renal blood flow declines about ten percent per decade (Weinstein & Anderson, The Aging Kidney, NIH/PMC).

A liter of fluid that a healthy 30-year-old clears without noticing can push an 80-year-old with a cardiac or renal history into fluid overload: the heart and kidneys cannot move that volume quickly enough, and the result can be swelling, shortness of breath and strain on the heart. Impaired kidneys also clear certain minerals less well, so electrolyte disturbance is a second real risk in the same group. That is what we are screening for, and it is why we decline more often in this age group than any other.

An elderly relative worn out after three days of hosting usually needs shade, a chair, food, oral fluids and a rest — not a bag of saline. When a family asks us to drip a grandparent, we ask about heart and kidney history and current medications, and we say no when the picture calls for it. If a physician who knows them says otherwise, we will want that in writing.

Who should skip a drip entirely?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding without OB clearance, anyone with active heart, kidney or liver disease, anyone with a known allergy to IV fluids or common drip ingredients, and anyone with G6PD deficiency considering high-dose vitamin C. Anyone with severe or sudden symptoms needs a doctor or urgent care that day, not a wellness drip.

Peripheral IV access carries real complications independent of what is in the bag, including infiltration, phlebitis, vein occlusion, vasovagal reactions and allergic reactions (Peripheral Line Placement, StatPearls). Fluid overload and electrolyte disturbance come from the volume and contents rather than the needle, and matter most in people with reduced heart or kidney function. All of it is why a nurse stays for the whole visit rather than starting the drip and leaving.

Three rules apply to every group booking and are not negotiable at the door. Every guest is assessed individually and any guest can be declined. The person organizing the wedding cannot consent on anyone else's behalf, including for a parent or an adult child. And nobody is charged for a drip they do not receive. How far ahead should you book a nurse for a wedding weekend?

Two to three weeks ahead is what we ask for a wedding, and earlier for a Saturday in spring or fall when several events compete for the same nurses. Smaller parties can often book three to seven days out.

Your venue lead time is far longer. The Diamond Bar Center takes reservations up to 24 months out for residents and Diamond Bar based non-profits, and 20 months for non-residents and businesses (City of Diamond Bar), so by the time you book a nurse the schedule has usually been fixed for a year or more.

What does a group IV booking cost for a wedding?

About $299 per person for two to four people and about $269 per person for five to ten, with a custom quote for ten or more because staffing changes at that size. That rate covers a California-licensed Registered Nurse on site, all supplies, and individual screening for every guest.

What does the venue coordinator need to know before the day?

Four things: that a California-licensed Registered Nurse is coming, where that nurse will set up, when they can load in, and that all sharps and medical waste leave with them. Most coordinators at these venues have hosted a medical vendor before and the conversation takes two minutes.

On credentials, be precise. In California a Registered Nurse administers IV therapy under a licensed provider's order, following a good-faith exam by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant — the RN administers but cannot order (California Business and Professions Code §2725.1). A Licensed Vocational Nurse may start and superimpose IV fluids only after board-approved training, under physician direction, and within an organized health care system operating under written standardized procedures (§2860.5). • Whether a private room is available at that venue, or whether we should plan on the hotel or house instead
• Headcount — and note that each guest completes their own health intake and provider evaluation in advance, which nobody can do on their behalf
